1) The posts have 3 threaded
nuts inside the wooden part at the bottom (they are not visible).
Put the base aside for the moment. Thread the bolts into the
nuts by gently inserting them into the 3 larger holes at the
bottom of the post. DO NOT FORCE THEM INTO THE HOLE. If
a bolt does not easily engage the threads, turn the bolt counter-clockwise
a full turn and then try it again. You may need to do
this 2 or 3 times before it will catch the threads inside
the post. Now that you have seen how the bolts connect, remove
the bolts from the post .
2) Place top of scratching post on floor so that bottom
of pole faces up.
3) Push back any loose carpet fibers from center of
top of base (to make a clean fit with post).
4) Note that one hole on post and one on base are outlined
in color, and one may be in black. Position base on post so
that like colors touch each other (color to color, black to
black). These holes may also have numbers, which should also
be matched. Label on base should be facing you
5) GENTLY insert bolts through base and into holes
in post, starting with the colored one, and alternating between
the three. If a bolt does not easily thread into the nut,
turn it counter-clockwise one full turn and try it again.
You may have to do this 2 or 3 times before the bolt threads
into the nut. Turn the bolt as far as possible with your fingers.
Use the hex wrench when necessary.
6) Tighten bolts as much as possible with fingers,
alternating between the 3 until they are as far in as possible.
Then use the hex wrench to fully tighten them. BE CAREFUL
NOT TO BREAK THE WOOD BY OVERTIGHTENING. Your post should
be ready to use. Go get your cat, now.
