QUALITY: It has been the practice of this company to use only the highest quality new remnant carpet available. When resupplying our carpet, the remnants are inspected at our source's warehouse. We hand-pick carpet roll by roll & reject a lot of the cheaper styles. Thick, dense carpet with a rugged backing distinguishes Feline Design from the cheap Chinese products using a very lightweight covering which may look good when new, but which wears out quickly. A cheap covering makes our highly crafted product look cheap, and also shortens its life. Some of our products have berber carpet on them. For berber, we also look for thickness, as well as at the pattern (common to most berbers), and strive to choose carpet with a mild pattern - as opposed to a loud or busy design. A pattern can take the form of complimentary colors, as well as variatons in the height, sometimes resembling a tapestry.
COLORS: As for colors, we typically produce our cat furniture (including cat scratching posts) in beige, blue, and green. Since our first priority is always the quality of the carpet fibers and the backing, and since the remnants we buy are always changing, we don't get consistent shades of these colors. Beige will go from anywhere to an off-white to a light brown. Blue will usually be a medium darkness, but if we come across a high quality remnant that is sky blue or navy, they are sometimes used, too. Greens are a little trickier, and we usually only work with as close to a hunter green as possible. We find some nice teals at times, and if we find a teal that's more green than blue, it's OK. Sometimes a carpet has a blend of colors in it, and although the overall impression of the carpet can be beige, up close, you may find that it has a variety of colors among the fibers, ranging from a brown to an ivory, for example. If this carpet meets our other standards, we'll use it.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS: We use only NEW carpet which is left over after a carpet installation, & which usually finds its way into a landfill if we don't get our hands on it.
